FORMER Southampton and Leeds midfielder David Prutton has backed Daniel Farke's side to beat Saints on the final day of the season.

Although the game is a dead rubber for the away side, Saints could still have a say in the automatic promotion race.

Leeds must beat Saints and hope Ipswich lose to all but relegated Huddersfield if they are to secure second place.

Speaking on his Championship predictions podcast, Prutton backed Leeds, who he joined from Southampton, to win 1-0.

He said: “I’m intrigued to see what the atmosphere is like at Elland Road because if Ipswich lose and Leeds win, their goal difference is what would take them up.

“However, it’s been an unfortunate stumble at the most important of times at Leeds.

“(Ipswich) have been phenomenal, it’s been a joy to watch them, the game on Saturday against Hull was great, the game against Coventry, they were effective, and just everything about it.

“I like to think, unless you’re Norwich, they’ve got that sense of being everyone’s second team this season.

"They have broken the three-way bust-up between former Premier League teams. I think Leeds will beat Southampton 1-0."
