NOTICE OF DETERMINATION M271 and A35 Redbridge roundabout upgrade ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT DETERMINATION UNDER SECTION 105AB (1)(b) OF THE HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 (as amended)
Highways England gives notice that it has been determined that the M271 and A35 Redbridge roundabout upgrade proposal which is a relevant project within the meaning of section 105ZA (2) of the Highways Act 1980 (as amended) is not subject to environmental impact assessment in accordance with Part 105A of the Highways Act 1980 (as amended).
This is due to the fact that there are no likely significant effects on the environment when taking into account the characteristics and location of the development, and the type and characteristics of the potential impacts.
This conclusion has taken into account measures to avoid or prevent significant adverse effects on the environment including two noise barriers that have been designed into the scheme in the area around Redbridge Towers to the north east of the scheme, and around the closest properties on Old Redbridge Road to the south of the scheme. The barriers are at 5m and 4m height respectively.
Drainage system of the scheme have also been design for a climate change allowance of 20% and landscape plantings designed to offer potential opportunities for improving the relationship of the existing road corridor and junction with the surrounding townscape. This would create a sense of place and reinforce the character of the local townscape, enhancing the road users' experience through improved views of the townscape and enhancing the gateway to Southampton.
