PUNTERS raised a glass to a popular Southampton pub’s landlord and landlady.
More than 100 regulars packed into The Anchor in Test Lane, Redbridge, for a celebratory bash marking the two-year anniversary of the couple taking over the drinking hole and transforming it into one of the most thriving in the area.
Guests took to the dance floor for a performance by young band Cover Up.
There was also a raffle of prime meats for Christmas and plenty of drinks flowed late into the evening.
Landlady Julianne Graham, 50, who runs it with her fiance Mark Smith, 58, said: “It has been a fantastic two years.
“When we first came here it was dark and dingy but now it is brilliant and we are lucky to be holding our own at a time when many pubs are closing.”
She thanked their regulars and said: “They have always supported us in charity events and fun days and we wouldn’t have survived without them.”
The event was followed with a Santa’s grotto and children’s activities.
The Anchor was transformed into a winter wonderland to help youngsters get into the Christmas spirit.
Father Christmas and one of his elves met 65 children and handed out gifts as the pub hosted a festive party for youngsters.
Julianne said they put on the free event because they wanted to give back to the community.
Julianne said: “We did it because the pub is part of the community. It’s a family pub and that’s what we’ve always worked towards. Christmas is for the kids and we wanted to give something back to the community.”
