Visitors to the port of Southampton could start seeing handheld mobile speed cameras at the side of the roads.

Safety is a top priority for ABP and introducing these cameras is part of a driver safety awareness campaign to reduce the speed of traffic through the port. With a speed limit of 30 mph, the same road safety rules apply on port roads as they do on the public highways.

ABP Southampton has a fleet of vehicles for port use and 12 of these are electric with one hybrid. Further zero emission-vehicles will be added to the fleet over the next few months to ensure that employee travel around the port continues to be in the most environmentally responsible way. With a total of 50 electric charging points around the port, staff as well as visitors are encouraged to take advantage of these and to charge their private vehicles free of charge.

With a large number of vehicles accessing the port on a daily basis the message to all drivers is to stick to the speed limit.
