A FAREHAM company which helps makes Britain’s trains and rolling stock safer is attending the UK’s leading rail exhibition for the first time.

Barnbrook Systems Ltd will be showcasing products – including its award-winning brake controller – at Railtex 2019 on May 14-16 at the NEC in Birmingham.

Managing director Tony Barnett said: “Our brake controller is the only product of its kind and has driven considerable expansion at Barnbrook Systems over recent years.

“It is our marquee product for the rail sector and we are looking forward to showcasing it and our other ranges at Railtex 2019.

“Although we are firmly established in the rail sector and have attended many other trade fairs, this will be our first time at Railtex.

“We will be joining some heavyweight names in the rail sector, including many of our clients, and we are very much looking forward to a successful show.”

Rail contributes £36 billion in economic growth and £11 billion in tax revenue annually in the UK, according to the Railway Industry Association. It supports more than 600,000 jobs nationwide.

Railtex is an international exhibition of railway equipment, systems and services with more than 400 exhibitors from 22 countries. It attracts thousands of delegates from across the world.

Barnbrook Systems, based in Fareham Park Road, is a designer, developer and manufacturer of electronic and electro-mechanical switching devices for aerospace, defence, maritime, rail and commercial industries worldwide.

Its existing and previous rail clients include East Midland Trains, London Midland Trains, Great Western Railway, South Western Railway, Porterbrook Leasing Company and Angel Trains.

Barnbrook is a former winner of the National Passenger Safety title at the UK Rail Industry Awards for its brake controller.

The cutting-edge device replaces out-of-date and failing brake controllers – some up to 40 years old – on trains to improve safety and reliability, helping companies hit punctuality targets and avoid penalties.

Barnbrook also upgrades and remodels the controllers – which are used by drivers in cabs – on a regular basis to ensure they remain up to date.

Barnbrook Systems will be on stand L64 at Railtex.
