DESPITE the best efforts of screen idol Antonio Banderas and '60s supermodel Twiggy - pictured above - retail giant Marks & Spencer yesterday reported its worst quarterly trading for more than two years.
M&S boss Sir Stuart Rose revealed a 2.2 per cent drop in Christmas sales, despite a star-packed advertising campaign.
He said market conditions became tougher in November and December as he unveiled the drop - the group's first in nine quarters.
He also warned of difficult trading to come in 2008, confirming fears of a spending slowdown on the high street.
Last year the retailer clocked up a rise in third-quarter sales of 5.6 per cent.
