SOUTH coast manufacturing success story Rolls-Royce has revealed that sales soared by 25 per cent last year, with more than 1,000 cars sold for the first time.
Such is the success of the prestige brand that it is sparking a jobs boom just across the Hampshire border, with plans unveiled to recruit another 400 workers and add a second assembly line at its Goodwood, Sussex, plant.
It reported strong demand for all Phantom models, but it was the new £260,000 Phantom Drophead Coupé, pictured, launched in the summer, which drove the volume increase.
Ian Robertson, chairman and chief executive, said: "It confirms Rolls-Royce as the most desirable brand in the super luxury market and is a credit to the passion and dedication of our teams at Goodwood and around the world."
