SOUTHAMPTON'S largest independent restaurant group is to expand this spring with the launch of two new restaurants and the conversion of its Casa Bodega Romsey restaurant into a "gastro pub" called the Cromwell Arms.

The move will increase Dalmeny Leisure's presence in and around the city to eight.

The group has acquired the site of the former Langley's restaurant in Bedford Place and plans to open a new 80 cover Puccini's Ristorante Italiano there in early April.

Dalmeny bought Puccini's Shirley restaurant out of administration last year and is now growing the brand.

Port Hamble will see the arrival of a new outlet of popular Ocean Village eatery Banana Wharf, which is set to open in time for the early summer sailing season. An extensive refit of the old Ancasta building within the marina will see the creation of a 150 cover bar and restaurant complete with outside terrace for 90 overlooking the River Hamble.

Wharf veteran Mark Chinnock is set to run the new branch, while Chris Rose takes on the role of executive chef for both restaurants and group director, Kerry Mason, pictured, will be responsible for the developing both outlets.

She said: "We are looking forward to introducing the same concept at Port Hamble. Our research suggests that there is a strong demand for a relaxed and informal bar and restaurant in the Hamble waterfront area."

Romsey Mediterranean restaurant Casa Bodega is now being converted in a food-led pub run by former Dockgate4 general manager Mark Walter and his wife Helen.

Casa Bodega's Chris "Harry" Harrison, also a Dalmeny director, will also continue to run and manage the Pavilion, a luxury marquee set in the grounds of The Cromwell Arms that hosts weddings, corporate and charity events.

The new units are another step in the expansion of the Dalmeny Leisure group which, employs about 250 people.

Established in the late 80s it today includes several of the city's popular night spots including Dockgate4 Bar & Grill, The Wine Bar and Ennio's.
