A HAMPSHIRE hotel is to receive a money-spinning boost from one of the world's most upmarket fashion labels following an image makeover.

Suits-to-scents empire Hugo Boss is taking over the entire Old Lodge in Gosport during Skandia Cowes Week.

Hugo Boss plumped for the hotel, which was recently reopened after a refurbishment, because of one local yachtsman's achievements in the sailing world.

Alex Thomson, pictured right, who will be on hand to entertain Hugo Boss and its guests, is the famous round-the-world yachtsman who captains his open60 yacht Hugo Boss.

As his campaign is based in Haslar Marina, Gosport, it was decided The Old Lodge was the right place for entertaining and accommodation.

Hotel manager Alastair Taylor said staff looked forward to welcoming the guests.

Tanya Brookfield, managing director of Alex Thomson Racing, said: "In the past we've had to book our sponsors and guests into hotels out of the area.

"But over the months we've seen the hotel's development and progress and we're extremely confident that Alistair and his team will offer our sponsors a unique experience, whilst supporting a local business."

Meanwhile Alex's team is in full preparation mode for his next solo event the VELUX 5 OCEANS race, starting in Bilbao, Spain, in October.

Skandia Cowes Week, which is one of the top events in the European sailing calendar, runs from July 29 to August 5.
