WHEN one door closes another door opens - and this was the case for Waitrose supermarkets in Southampton.
Staff and managers of Waitrose celebrated yesterday as their new store in Portswood, Southampton, opened its doors to customers for the first time.
The supermarket, on Portswood Road, replaces the Waitrose in WestQuay, which closed on Tuesday. The store prides itself on its dedication to organic foods and locally-sourced products, including New Forest honey and chutney and Lyburn cheese. Andy Gissing, branch manager, said: "Our new branch gives us the opportunity to give customers a great shopping experience. The improved access and even greater choice of high-quality food means there will be something in store to suit all tastes."
Mr Gissing is pictured here giving Dilys Dickinson, 86, the store's first customer, a hamper of goodies.
