Winner: Brymor Construction

“THEY wowed us,” said Simon Rhodes of sponsors Trethowans speaking about Brymor, winner of the coveted Business of the Year title.

The award is open to all the shortlisted firms and Brymor were also winners of the Customer Service award and a runner-up in the Scale-Up Business of the year category.

Simon told the Echo that Brymor story was what the awards were all about.

“They are a phenomenal all-round business which has been too-long hidden. These awards are about helping companies like this celebrate their successes.”

Brymor was formed in1987, by chairman Stephen Morton and his wife Jan. In the first year the company’s turnover was a very respectable £750,000 it is now £90 million.

In the last three decades Brymor has evolved into a respected and diverse construction partner with the expertise, experience and capability to deliver projects in all sectors ranging from £25k to £20m.

Tye company, which employs 180 staff, is currently working on a number of major projects, including building hotels for Hilton and Premier Inn.

Whilst the company has grown the family ethos and friendly approach remains.

Stephen Morton believes that being a family business is a big factor in Brymor’s success.

The company has bene through tow recessions and because we are family-run we all stick together and this has helped us ride out the bad times.”

However the addition of outside talent . Stephen said growth has accelerated rapidly since the appointment of MD Mark Dyer six years ago.

“There comes a time when you need an outside influence,” said Stephen.
