THOUSANDS are set to head to Hampshire from all across the UK and as far away as Guernsey as the Eastleigh 10k returns this weekend.

The popular event, which is now in its 37th year is expected to see a total of 2,900 people head onto the streets of the town on Sunday.

As well as this, 300 children are set to take part in the fun run after that event also sold out.

Runners are also expected to descend on the area from miles around as well with people coming from as far as Wales, Kent, London and even a group of 21 runners flying in from Guernsey for what will be their first street race away from the island since lockdown.

Organiser Steve Collins told the Echo the event is one of the biggest of its kind in the UK and runners are looking forward to getting back on track after the pandemic.

"We always sell out, it's such a popular event," he said. "For many runners, it marks the beginning of the spring running season.

"It gives them a chance to put their winter training into practice.

"It's a fast course. If we get a decent day, which it looks like we will in terms of weather, then the course is a good race to get a personal best."

The Hendy Ford Eastleigh 10k begins at 9am with most people set to complete the course in about an hour and a half.

Steve added: "One of the nice things is the amount of people that come out and cheer their loved ones around the town.
