IN August, 1976, it was carnival time and crowds were out in force on the streets of Southampton, Eastleigh and Lyndhurst watching the processions.

In Southampton, eight-year-old Tracey Hedges was crowned Princess St Denys 1976, while Elizabeth Orr and Gerladine Keating were runners up in the competition.

The Easteligh carnival procession of 30 years ago, which included one float featuring Hawaiian dancers, took more than two hours to wind its way through the town centre streets.

Alice in Wonderland was the theme of the carnival in Lyndhurst where four-year-old Victoria Vaughan, pictured above, had entered as the Queen of Hearts while in Lyndhurst the local Sunday school joined in the fun of the parade.
