A MEMORIAL garden to the last survivor of the Titanic has been unveiled at the entrance to Southampton’s new £15m SeaCity Museum.
The Mayor of Southampton councillor Derek Burke dedicated the living tribute to Millvina Dean at the city’s Titanic themed attraction.
At only nine-weeks-old, Millvina was the youngest passenger when she boarded Titanic with her family in search of a new life in the United States in April 1912. She died aged 98, on May 31, 2009.
The dedication ceremony was attended by David Hill of the British Titanic Society, Una Reilly MBE of the Belfast Titanic Society, and Rev Julian Davies of St Mary’s Church.
The garden was paid for by the Millvina Fund alongside donations from around the world.
Mr Hill, an administrator of the fund, said “With her joyous philosophy and unassuming personality, Millvina Dean touched the hearts of all who knew her.
“We are particularly pleased that this garden dedicated to her memory will be seen and enjoyed by thousands from around the world who will come to enjoy the SeaCity Museum.”
