Albert Road was where many of the steerage passengers stayed before leaving Southampton.

Now split in two since the construction of the Itchen Bridge in 1976, in 1912 this road connected the Chapel area with the docks.

Like many of the large hotels of the era, Atlantic Hotel has now been converted into flats and apartments however it was a rather functional place to stay in the early 20th century.

Far removed from the opulence of South Western Hotel, a short walk up Canute Road, this building was where many thrid class passengers stayed.

It provided cheap accommodation for what many hoped would be their last night before embarking on a new life in America.

Since the sinking, Albert Road has been split in two, following the construction of the Itchen Bridge.

Atlantic Mansions is situated on what is now Albert Road South.
