WORK is underway to build 22 new homes on the site of a derelict hotel in Droxford.

The £15million redevelopment of Upland Park is being dubbed "the epitome of luxury" by developer Eco Custom Homes Limited.

Originally built in the 1930s the hotel closed its doors in 2012 and has since lain dormant and has become notorious for break-ins and vandalism. Half of the building burned down last October.

But groundworks for the new homes have started at strategy director of Eco Custom Homes Scott Stamper said: "To say we are excited to bring this to fruition is the biggest understatement of my career.

“We know we produce out-of-this-world holiday homes and holiday villages, but with a location as stunning as the Meon Valley, you know you have something very special indeed.

"Quite simply, Upland Park will be unique to the market and will offer a service to owners and guests that is second-to-none.”

Permission for the redevelopment was first approved by the South Downs National Park Planning Authority in 2016.

A show home will be available to view in September this year.

An advert for the development says: "Upland Park ownership, not only presents a sound financial investment opportunity, but also one that will enhance your personal wellbeing too.

"This is a lifestyle statement like no other, with a service level and attention to detail that will make every owner happy. Located in the South Downs National Park, Upland Park itself offers fantastic strolls along the River Meon, National hiking trails and excellent cycling routes.

"Nearby you will find a selection of local shops, plenty of choice when it comes to high-end restaurants, award-winning pubs and Hambleton Vineyard for you to celebrate your arrival with a glass or two of award-winning fizz."
