THE JOINERS has announced another big show to celebrate its 50th anniversary year.

Home grown international rockers Band of Skulls, featuring local singer-guitarist Russell Marsden and bassist-vocalist Emma Richardson, will return to the iconic Southampton music venue on Wednesday April 25.

The band, who met at Barton Perveril College, usually play to thousands at festivals and gigs across the world, so this is a rare chance for fans to see them in front of just 200 people in their home city.

They were most recently in the south at last year’s Victorious Festival and had a huge homecoming show at The Guildhall in 2014. They played The Engine Rooms in 2016 to support fourth album By Default and appeared on the main stage at the first Common People festival in 2015.

In partnership with Jack Daniels, all of the ticket price will be going to the Music Venue Trust, a charity created to protect the UK live music network by securing the future of iconic grassroots venues like The Joiners. Indie rockers Circa Waves and Peace are also playing intimate shows in Liverpool and Birmingham in April.

Since opening in 1968, everyone from Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay has played at The Joiners. NME named it best small venue in 2013.

The stage is still a rite of passage for today’s hottest new bands like The Sherlocks, Blossoms and The Amazons as well as local acts like Costellos and Bel Esprit, who joint headline on Friday March 16.

Southampton’s rising stars Cassava sold out the first show of this year while in recent times both Creeper and The Vaccines have done benefit gigs to support the St Mary Street venue.

The Band of Skulls show at The Joiners will be one of the first for their new drummer after founding member Matt Hayward left at the start of last year. Tickets on sale midday Friday March 2 at joiners.vticket.co.uk.
