THIS year’s line-up for the retro festival has a nostalgic vibe, with music from the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Here is Catherine Collins’s top five performances not to be missed:

1 Black Lace

Black Lace is best known for novelty party records, including their biggest hit, Agadoo. The band first came to the public eye after being selected to represent the UK in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest, in which they finished seventh with the song Mary Ann. Black Lace went on to have success with novelty party anthems such as Superman and Do the Conga, so be sure to practice your dance moves.

2 Adam Ant

Headliner, Adam Ant, is an English singer and musician. He gained popularity as the lead singer of new wave group Adam and the Ants and later as a solo artist, scoring 10 UK top ten hits from 1980 to 1983, including three UK No. 1 singles. Expect to hear his classics Antmusic, Stand and Deliver, Prince Charming and Ant Rap.

ABC has enjoyed a glittering career to date – one of a number of groups who came along and kick-started the Eighties with their own brand of pop for a new decade.

On it’s release in May 1982, their debut album The Lexicon of Love crashed straight into the UK album charts at number one, showcasing the hits songs Tears Are Not Enough, Poison Arrow, The Look Of Love, S.O.S and All Of My Heart.

4 Aswad

Aswad was arguably Britain’s most successful reggae band, in terms of both popularity and longevity, noted for adding strong R&B and soul influences to the reggae sound.

They have been performing since the mid-1970s, having released a total of 21 albums.

There best known singles include Give a Little Love, Don’t Turn Around, Shine and Beauty’s Only Skin Deep.

5 Midge Ure

An artist who has received Ivor Novello, Grammy and BASCAP awards along with a flotilla of gold and platinum records, Midge Ure really needs no introduction.

Musical success is seldom measured in time spans of more than a few years so the fact that by the time Midge’s single If I Was went to number one in 1985 he had already crammed several musical lifetimes into a 10-year professional career speaks volumes – Slik, The Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy, Visage, Ultravox and of course the most famous one off group in musical history Band Aid had by then all had the guiding hand of his musical navigation.

Hits include Breathe, Vienna, Cold Cold Heart and The Man Who Sold the World.sical navigation.
