COMEDIAN Alexei Sayle goes on tour for the first time in seven years, stopping off at Theatre Royal Winchester in February.
The alternative comedy legend, actor and writer – who has been performing stand-up for forty years ‘since the day he invented modern comedy’ – is bound for stages across the UK to continue being ‘really funny, dangerously political and wildly energetic’, following on from his hugely successful Radio 4 show, Imaginary Sandwich Bar – a mix of stand-up, memoir and philosophical thought.
Described as a ‘master of comedy’, Sayle was a central figure in the alternative comedy scene in the 1980s, becoming London Comedy Store’s first MC; performing on radio and TV; and in movies.
He is also an actor, author and former recording artist, and was a central figure in the alternative comedy movement in the 1980s.
He was voted the 18th greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4's 100 Greatest Stand-ups in 2007. In the updated 2010 poll he came 72nd.
Alexei Sayle will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from February 3 to February 4.
