WINCHESTER based playwright Jonathan Edgington’s plays have been performed around the world on stage and film but never in an audio format.

This is all about to change however as local am-dram group Cheriton Players have recently recorded an audio version of his short play Hologram.

Jonathan said: “I’m really looking forward to listening to Hologram. Although my plays have somehow managed to clock up nearly 200 productions worldwide the Cheriton Players are the first theatre group to record an audio version.”

Jonathan has written 43 plays, monologues, sketches and short pantomimes. His work has been performed in London and other parts of the UK and in various other countries including Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, India, Ireland, Hungary, Morocco, Switzerland and the USA.

He is probably best known in the Winchester area for the Chesil Theatre’s 2016 Summer production of his award-winning comedy/drama Robin Hood in the beautiful Wolvesey Palace gardens.

Locally, he has also had plays performed at the Maskers Theatre in Southampton, the Berry Theatre in Hedge End and on the Salisbury Fringe.

Despite the Covid related theatre industry shut-down, Jonathan is managing to keep busy.

His short Aladdin panto is proving very popular with schools and theatre groups who are buying the script to make into videos for online audiences this Christmas.

He is currently working on several new writing projects that he hopes will come to fruition in 2021.
