CHEESE and curry.

Undoubtedly two of my favourite things in the world!

Put them together and you have a very happy customer on your hands.

I have had cheesy flavoured curries before, but the cheese lovers delight I encountered at Kohinoor on Portswood High Street has to be tasted to be believed!

You have to be a major cheese fan to enjoy this curry. It's not for the faint-hearted but if you like your cheese it can only be described as heavenly.

The Chicken Kalia is among two pages of specials dreamt up by the restaurant's wonderful chef and added to the extensive menu.

The perfectly cooked chunks of chicken are covered in a creamy sauce of not only paneer cheese but also strong mature cheddar. It really is the perfect combination.

I enjoyed that as a main course along with a helping of pilau rice and a plain naan bread to soak up the cheesy remainders.

My companion opted for another of Kohinoor's specials - the Chicken Aloo Jul.

Huge tender pieces of chicken are stuffed with spices and cooked in a medium sauce.

To start, I had enjoyed onion bhajis, which were almost too filling for a starter but too tasty to waste.

My companion enjoyed Lamb Rezella, another speciality dish of shredded lamb served with naan bread and yoghurt, which really was superb.

There are a number of desserts, an excellent drinks list and mints and liqueurs at the end of your meal.

The staff at Kohinoor are warm and attentive and the restaurant was busy and buzzing when we visited despite it being early on a dreary weekday evening in January.

Every customer is treated like an old friend and many seem to have become old friends over the years.

One things for sure. Once you have tasted that cheesy curry, you won't be able to resist going back for more.

And more. And more.
