Fans of Telltale's The Walking Dead have been ravenously searching for something meaty to sink their teeth into, and have now been provided with just that. It's an à la carte choice of chilling narratives and crunch decisions, with each course graciously complementing each other.

Separate to the events of Season One, players no longer follow the story of Lee and Clementine, but are instead treated to five separate tales, each overlapping, twisting and turning. They take place over 400 days from the moment of the initial outbreak and can be played in any order.

Vince is a prisoner convicted of murder, Shel is a lady trying to protect her younger sister, Russell is a young man desperate to be reunited with his family, Bella is a recovering addict, and Wyatt is a hippy.

As with Season One, players are constantly faced with snap-second choices, and those who have their original save on their PS3 will even have a tailor-made experience. Choices made will effect the outcome, and it's possible that it will also have a bearing on future releases.

Things are visually stunning, which helps to create an electric atmosphere. The cinematics are always engrossing, and are at a perfect balance with interactivity.

With each episode only lasting around 20-30 minutes, it's often difficult to get absorbed in a particular character, or even care about them. A certain fondness can however be formed because of the overarching stroryline and the knowledge that although each episode is short, it's part of something much grander.

It's not the banquet some may have hoped, Telltale haven't been over-indulgent with the portion sizes, but instead have provided satisfying morsels for a meagre £3.99 a head.

It's got the taste of The Walking Dead, even if it doesn't follow the story of Lee and Clem. It's more of an entrée or amuse bouche before the main course of Season Two which should be brought to the table soon. Hopefully.

SCORE: 8 / 10

PROS: Great narrative which pads out The Walking Dead's world and provides an interesting bridge between the old and upcoming series'. Decisions are as important as they've ever been.

CONS: Too short to get any major form of characterisation.

Please note: You need The Walking Dead: Season One – Episode One as a download from the PSN, or The Walking Dead: Season One on PS3 Blu-ray to play 400 Days.
