Puzzle games steeped with musical twists are usually winners in my eyes - I have the musical talent of a dead slug, but I love the idea of being able to influence or create melodic beats with simple play. Or in the case of Chime Sharp - not so simple play.

Things can be massively intimidating at first, as lights flash across the screen and music blasts from the speakers. However, the basic objective isn’t too difficult to grasp.

The aim is to create shapes beginning with 3x3 squares, building out to cover as much of the playing board as possible. Take too long to build out and the shapes disappear, taking any points multiplier with it.

Blocks built on the board trigger musical notes, creating a custom tune which becomes more frantic the better the player is doing

There's something strangely hypnotic about the music teamed with the puzzle solving, and although it’s easy to lose hours playing, there’s always room for improvement. It's a massively difficult game, but play is so absorbing that it becomes easy to put in the hours of practice it screams for.

Although there’s sadly no multiplayer mode, there are plenty of modes for each musical track available, provided the original Time Based Mode has already been beaten.

Chime Sharp has scratched my musical gaming playing itch whilst providing a fun, albeit difficult, game. The only problem - it eats life.
