John Godber’s most-performed play was originally set in the 70s, but this was his 80s re-write.
It’s Friday night in West Yorkshire and the bouncers are getting ready for the opening of the night club where they provide ‘security’.
Without changing their trademark suits and with only beer barrels and handbags as props, they created a diverse range of characters simply by changing posture and accent.
We saw lager-louts, brassy girls and hairdressers all portrayed accurately and hilariously as they prepared for their night out and later, drunk, in the club.
Adam Myers (as Lucky Eric, the obvious leader of the four) effortlessly displayed his versatility, as did Aston Harrison as Judd, the potential loose-canon.
Sam Quested directed, as well as confidently marking his overdue return to the stage as Ralph.
Jason Watling-McCarthy overcame any first-night nerves to make a credible stage debut as Les.
Very non-pc, but delivered so well and very, very funny!
