FROM the ashes of two bands, Mothership and The Push, has arisen the rock sound of Saints of Sin and they will be playing their first official headline gig on Wednesday at The Joiners.

From Mothership, Hordle-based brothers Ash Jenkins, on bass, and Marcus ‘Sparky’ Jenkins, with his guitar licks, plus Walkford’s Josh Rose, with his deep-hearted drumming, have been joined by ace-guitarist Matt Spencer who lives in Ashley and is a former member of The Push.

Add in the vocal talents of Rui Brito from Southampton, whose top notes make Justin Hawkins sound like a bass baritone, and you have a top original-sounding rock band.

Ticket money from the gig is being given back to The Joiners for them to continue their support of emerging artists.

n MOTOWN and soul fans are in for a treat at a charity fundraiser at Southampton’s Voodoo Lounge tomorrow night.

The event, in aid of the heart unit at Southampton General Hospital, features top city soul singer Ivan J and Paul Mico, a popular DJ who specialises in classic club and party tunes.

n BURSTING out of London’s underground music scene with its thrilling world of pirate radio, crude DJ set ups, improvised studios, and bleeding edge beats come Rudimental.

Piers Aggett, Kesi Dryden, Amir Amor and Leon Rolle make up the pioneering meltingpot collective who have taken the British music scene by storm, championed for their uncompromising approach to music-making whilst avoiding rigid classification.

From their huge drum & bass-meets-soul anthem and No. 1 single to their Later… with Jools Holland TV performance, they are flying high.

Rudimental perform at Southampton’s Roxx on Thursday.

n SOLENT Switch are hosting the first of a series of events aimed at showcasing local musical talent from Southampton and the Isle of Wight at The Talking Heads tomorrow night.
