GODLIKE Genius and one of the greatest guitarists of all time – you’ll have to beg borrow or steal to get your hands on a ticket to Johnny Marr’s sold out gig at The Brook on Thursday.

It’s a rare Southampton appearance from the man who, alongside Morrissey, formed The Smiths, the Manchester band that went on to become one of the most influential in history, in 1982 when he was just 18.

They went their separate ways in 1987 after creative differences between Marr and Morrissey.

Post The Smiths, Marr has spent his time playing guitar in a succession of great acts including The Cribs and Modest Mouse.

He performed on albums by Oasis, Pearl Jam, Bryan Ferry, Talking Heads and Pet Shop Boys, among others.

His debut solo album, The Messenger, was released this year to much critical acclaim. Marr has been cited as a major influence for Oasis lead guitarist Noel Gallagher and John Squire of The Stone Roses.
