Two years on from their successful debut, The Miserable Rich return with their latest batch of “unusual acoustic modern music” to appease the masses. This collection of classical musicians is known for their chamber orchestra sound and this LP sounds no different.
Recorded over several months in their houses in Brighton the album finally reached fruition following several delays caused by angry neighbours, floods and the working commitments of the band (mainly night shifts). The release ties in nicely with their current month-long tour of Europe before returning to these shores in the next couple of weeks to provide their live sound to their home-grown fanbase.
Guitars coupled with cellos, violins, piano and double bass, among others, create the kind of soundtrack you would associate with the sleepy summer days of a south-eastern farm. While this won’t sit well with everybody it certainly offers something unique. It’s not breathtaking but it’s pleasant enough. LEIGH SANDERS Rating: 3/5
