A SOUTHAMPTON singing sensation wowed crowds at the Mayflower Theatre last night.

Craig David opened his four night residency at the Mayflower with a bang, bringing hundreds of revellers out of their seats.

He played a selection of hits from his albums including his 2002 hit What's Your Flava, which got the crowd jumping while When the Bassline Drops was performed to a chorus of cheers.

During the second half, he brought out his signature TS5 decks, which he has developed since launching a second career as a DJ where he performed a record-breaking summer residency at the TS5 Pool Party in Ibiza across 10 weeks.

His mix of Bo Selecta! also brought back memories of the sketch show, spinning the decks to create a catchy mockery song.

David said: "It's been a fantastic night, I want to thank all of my family and friends.

"I’m so grateful to the people of Southampton and the love they’ve always shown me - now I want to show it back.

"I know they’ve got my back and they know I’m one of them even though I don’t live there at the moment.

"I remember mixing music in my bedroom when I was 16 and to come back here tonight is amazing."

The series of events replaced a planned visit to the Ageas Bowl.

David will also be performing at Mayflower Theatre on September 11, 12 and 13.
