ACADEMY Awards season is certainly bursting with song and dance this year.

The all-singing all-dancing La La Land, which stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a musician and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles, scooped 14 Oscar nominations this week, equalling the all time record set by All About Eve and Titanic.

The number of nominations, which includes two in the same Best Original Song category, makes the Damian Chazelle-directed film the most Oscar-nominated musical in history, beating Mary Poppins' 13 nominations.

It's a great film, but my favourite Dancing Queen on the list is without doubt Hollywood royalty Meryl Streep.

She offered a rather unusual response after being asked to comment on her latest Oscar nomination by journalists. The usual statement of delight came in the form of a video of some jubilant dancing in Paul McCartney's 2013 video for Queenie Eye.

“Please find the following GIF as a statement on behalf of Meryl Streep,” her publicist wrote in an email to the press, attaching the rather joyous clip.

What better method is there to react to yet another nomination than a video of yourself dancing around ecstatically?

It's certainly not a bad way of answering a rather high profile critic, US president Donald Trump. Trump responded to her attack on some of his more controversial policies at the Golden Globes by saying she was one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood.

That's three Oscars for Streep for Kramer vs Kramer, Sophie's Choice and The Iron Lady. And that makes it a record 20th nomination for her impressive performance as a wobbly voiced warbler in Florence Foster Jenkins, eight more than any other actor.

And I would imagine two fingers up to her biggest doubter.

Something rather a lot of people would take as much delight in.
