HOW much drama can you pack into 50 minutes? A massive amount, as Jonathan Harvey’s intense and deeply affecting new work focusing on a homophobic hate crime attests.

Simply staged and utilising sound and projected backdrops to evoke the changes of scene, the play worked in reverse, beginning post-killing and skipping back in time to unravel the complex relationships, guilt and complicity of the friends of the dead Darren.

The piece was sharply and sparingly written, capturing the patois of its youthful characters and prejudice of a commmunity.

This was a strongly acted, superbly handled ensemble piece. The pace was brisk, divided into nine short acts, and crackled with tension.

Disturbing and yet intensely human, it was a perfectly formed drama that gripped from beginning to end.
