WINCHESTER Discovery Centre welcomes TV personalities, authors, and musicians this summer.

A spectacular puppet show will entertain young audiences in The Waving Cat of Japan on Sunday. The theatrical fantasy tackles a tropical storm, a wicked sorceress and a not so smart prince. The show is recommended for ages three to seven and will be performed with a sign language interpreter.

The Discovery Centre will celebrate the world’s most diverse and popular instrument in June with the Winchester Guitar Festival.

The three-day event is host to a number of concerts celebrating musicians young and old, with headliners Laura Young and the Eden Stell Guitar Duo performing on June 14 and 15 respectively. The festival comes to an end with three workshops for children on June 16.

The story of how the Women’s Institute ran the countryside during the Second World War is told on July 4 in Jambusters, an author talk with Julie Summers. A picture of the unpaid and unsung women will be painted followed by a book signing, with copies of Jambusters available on the night.

Comedian Mark Thomas will perform a preview of his Edinburgh show 100 Acts of Minor Dissent on July 19. Having set himself the task of committing 100 such acts, the political comedian known most recently for Radio 4’s The People’s Manifesto catalogues everything from the smallest, silliest gesture to the grandest confrontations. The results are hilarious and mainly legal!
