SCARAMOUCHE Jones is a clown. It is New Year’s Eve 1999, and in a few hours he will be 100 years old.
So he decides to tell the world his story – which is also the story of the world in the first half of the 20th century.
Funny and tragic in turns, be transported to the Caribbean, Africa and Europe as empires crumble – and one man’s incredible life unfurls before us.
The tales of his mother, servicing sailors on a fish slicing table in Trinidad, are both sad and funny, told as they are with a wonderful mix of script and mime.
The audience become invited guests as Scaramouche makes his journey from the Caribbean to Africa, to Europe and finally to England.
This is a one-man show featuring Neil Gwynne from Romsey Amateur Operatic and Drama Society (RAODS).
Fresh from a performance in the Swaledale Festival, at Britain’s most complete Georgian Playhouse in Richmond, Yorkshire, Neil Gwynne revisits the role he first performed in 2009 for audiences at The Maskers Studio in Shirley.
