SET in Rydell High School, Grease takes the staples of coming of age stories – friendship, first love – and backs it with a cool 1950s inspired sound track.

Stage One Youth Theatre’s exuberant production captured exactly the tone and feel of the period. Under the musical direction of Dennis Brombley, we were presented with beautifully harmonised, totally infectious production numbers that were enhanced by energetic, and above all fun, choreography courtesy of Matt Newman.

Director Jacqui Ivemy has overseen a nicely judged, well paced show, played with energy and confidence and drawing out some strong performances. At the centre, Georgie Cox (Danny) and Jessica Manus (Sandy) sparked well off each other and had some palpable chemistry.

They were backed by an excellent support cast. Of particular note were Ellie Jones (Jan) and Declan Dali-Murphy (Roger), Emily Collins-Wingate (Miss Lynch) and a wonderfully comedic performances from Luke Collins as Eugene.
