ROBIN Hood marked Gantry’s first performance in this new venue, and their enthusiasm for the space was evident in their great use of the auditorium, lighting and facilities.
An energetic and lively show, it had something for everyone: songs, dance, humour, considerable audience participation – perhaps more than anticipated on the last night – a nicely-done archery contest, and some very finely choreographed fight scenes.
The slow motion fight scene to Vangelis was particularly impressive.
While the story of Robin Hood (Owen Dennis) and his merry men (and woman) and his romance with Marion (Julia Newton) formed the heart of the story, as is often the case, it was the baddies – Prince John (Laurie McNamara) and the Sheriff of Nottingham (Joe Burgess) – who enjoyed some of the best scenes. Their banter with, and humiliation of, the audience was hilarious.
