Whilst some of the material might have dated slightly in the decades since it was written, Fawlty Towers still lives up to its reputation as an original, cleverly constructed, comic classic.

Fareham Musical Society's production gave full rein to the manic energy, verbal athleticism and imaginative mayhem of the plotlines that made them so memorable. The three stories chosen - The Psychatrist, The Anniversary and The Kipper and the Corpse - perfectly melded together yet equally were nicely contrasting examples of physical and verbal comedy.

Staged with verve and energy under the direction of Marina Voak (who also played Sybil), the production managed to overcome the complexities of numerous interiors with a simple yet effective solution. The action and pace were pitched at just the right level, allowing the humour to flow to best advantage.

This was a strong ensemble piece, with some well honed performances and the four principals very much making their characters their own.
