The company’s first Curtain Call review was also my initial visit to the Art-Deco venue, finding it welcoming and buzzing in anticipation.
Based on Monty Python’s 1975 Holy Grail film, the humour is like Spam; a matter of taste. Love it or loathe it you couldn’t fail to be hugely entertained.
Mark Everitt gave a right-royal performance as King Arthur, commanded by God to find the fabled goblet. With laconic trusted servant Pasty (Ian Metcalf) clip-clopping behind him, they recruit Knights to support his quest. James Dixon-Box (Sir Robin), Rossano Sal (Gallahad) and Sean Hardy (Sir Lancelot) were all highly-impressive in their respective roles, but Becky Willis topped them all as diva Lady of The Lake, displaying her admirable vocal range on The Song That Goes Like This. All the favourite sketches drew rapturous applause and Director David Sandham’s team hit the spot in every area, particularly James Stead’s orchestra. A gourmet meal!
