CURTAIN CALL REVIEW
The 39 Steps
Sway Drama Club, Sway Village Hall
THIS production of Patrick Barlow's wonderfully compact and witty adaptation of Hitchcock's film, Directed by John Petroff, uses a cast of a dozen or so and gives Mathew Stone - as Richard Hannay – a very enjoyable starring role, which is illuminated often by his winning smile.
Neatly fitting in with the opening and closing London Palladium scenes, we also get a chorus of dancing girls – Sarah Woodley, Andrea Cutler and Sway Drama newbies Alexa Francis and Sandi Cox – who all get to contribute characters to the numerous parts that make this show such fun.
The familiarity of the story may slow things down a little at times in the second half, but there is much comedy to be had (even the cleverly designed set, sound, lighting and props get well deserved laughs). With fine comic performances by Bruce McIntosh and Harold Gasnier, to name but two.
