EVERYTHING that could go wrong, did go wrong.

Basil is completely manic, Sybil utterly domineering and Manuel, just a languid, impaired train wreck.

And the show was all the better for every one of their mishaps.

It was wonderful, controlled chaos at the Mayflower as their new, interactive, theatrical dining adventure opened at Ovation Restaurant last night.

Around 80 guests began their evening at a drinks reception in the Empire Suite before the calamitous cast of three arrived to show us to our seats and cause havoc.

Two hours of madcap humour ensued as we tucked into a three-course feast while reliving some of the best moments of the BBC comedy favourite, starring the linguistically challenged waiter and his incompetent bosses.

There were teeth in the soup, a hamster under the table and a secret betting slip, plus plenty more shenanigans.

But despite a few mild, but very entertaining insults from our hosts, a Heimlich manoeuvre on one unfortunate diner and some dancing on the tables, it was an enjoyable evening.

There were purposeful mishaps aplenty, but our tomato and basil soup, pork dish and chocolate and almond dessert were of a good standard.

At £65 a head for dinner and entertainment, this is not a cheap night out. But it’s hugely entertaining and at times laugh out loud funny.

If you’re lucky, you might even be insulted or harassed by your hysterical waiter.

But this is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before and it’s proving hugely popular. Two weeks of dates this month are already sold out and additional nights in February are already selling well.

If you’re a fan of the Fawltys or just game for a laugh, this is an experience like no other.
