A CHEQUE for £400 has been presented to the Wessex Cancer Trust in memory of a popular Southampton man.
Stuart Brackenbury, pictured right,of Inner Avenue, Southampton, died of prostate cancer at the age of 63.
Friends, family, staff and regulars at the Wine Bar in Bedford Place, Southampton, pictured above, helped raise the money at a wake following his funeral.
Stuart worked for Hampshire County Council and Mott McDonald as a civil engineer and leaves a widow, two children and a grandson.
Close friend Denis Bundy, 61, of Inner Avenue, helped to raise the money at The Wine Bar with an impromptu fundraising game.
Denis said: "Stuart was an immensely popular character who was well known in Southampton and a lot of people wanted to pay their respects to him and his family.
"It was a very happy wake, which was in keeping with the sort of guy that Stuart was."
