A SCHOOL in Hampshire for children with learning
difficulties has been awarded yet another prize
for its design.
Hampshire County Council’s in-house property
services team has scooped the overall winner of the
quality places award at the Solent Design Awards
for its design of Forest Park School in Totton. The
awards recognise schemes and new developments
that enhance the quality of life across the area.
The judges said the scheme “displayed terrific resolution
of a complicated brief”, and “carefully
avoided an institutional feeling where architecture
and landscaping cohere well to create a wonderful
and uplifting school environment”.
Hampshire County Council leader Councillor Ken
Thornber added: “For our in-house design team to
pick up a third award for Forest Park Special School
is a wonderful achievement.”
The school has already received national recognition
with a Royal Institute of British Architects
(RIBA) Downland Award. It was also named runnerup
in the SCALA Civic Building of the Year Awards
2012 as an uplifting and nurturing environment for
children with complex needs.
