AN 82-year-old lollipop man has died after being involved in a crash with a car on a Hampshire road.
The pensioner was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he later died of head injuries.
The 21-year-old driver, who was behind the wheel of a Nissan Micra, was uninjured in the incident. She was arrested by police and later released on bail.
The lollipop man, who was working at the time of the crash yesterday afternoon, was wearing full reflective clothing.
He had been lollipop man at Queens Inclosure Primary School in Waterlooville for over a decade.
The incident happened at 3.05pm at the junction of Tempest Avenue and Cornelius Drive, in Waterlooville.
It is understood that, as leaving time from the school is 3.20pm, no child witnessed the accident although some youngsters did see him lying in the road as the air ambulance landed to take him to hospital.
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them with information on 101.
