CHILDREN with speech and communication problems will benefit from extra support to prepare them for school through Hampshire’s Sure Start children’s centres.
A new team of speech and language therapists are providing specialist support to pre-school children thanks to county council funding.
Hampshire County Council leader Cllr Ken Thornber earmarked nearly £1m to beef up speech and language support services for pre-school and disabled children.
The new service is part of a wide range of support available to young families in 81 children’s centres across the county, which are now run by charities with county council funding.
Children with disabilities in special schools are also set to benefit from extra speech and language support.
