Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery has praised the design of the new Havant and Waterlooville Household Waste Recycling Centre during a visit to the new facility.

The new purpose-built centre on the outskirts of the town and within the West of Waterlooville development opened in January and was funded by contributions from developers. It has replaced a cramped site in nearby Hambledon Road.

George said: “This is a fantastic amenity for the people of the area and replaces something which was frankly unfit for the needs of the 21st Century.

"It has significantly more waste container bays and customer parking spaces than the old site and it's also better designed so that containers can be removed or changed without the need to close the whole site for 20 minutes.

"This is an important advance because this closure was a particular bugbear for many people using the old Hambledon Road facility.

"The temporary road surface and lack of road markings are going to remain a problem until they are replaced once housing construction in the area is complete but that will be done in time.

"This is a huge improvement and I very much welcome and appreciate the work which has been done.”

George visited the centre with Mel Kendal, Executive Member for the Environment at Hampshire County Council as well as local ward councillor Patricia Stallard.
