Three community groups in Southampton are celebrating after winning vital cash grants.

The trio of groups in the Bitterne ward have been awarded funding by the Community Development Foundation, which has dished out a kitty worth £4,000 to the projects.

Thornhill Community Association was given £2,500 to help put on night-time activities for youngsters living on the estate, including dance and theatre schools.

The Pleasant View Gardening Group, based at Orpen Road sheltered accommodation in Sholing, has been handed £945 to build an accessible raised flower bed.

The third community project to receive a grant is the Badger Den Community Garden in Lineacre Road, which will get £800 to purchase gardening equipment and tools to improve the green space.
