A Southampton dentist has been struck off after being found guilty of a string of misconduct offences.

Jagdev Singh Wasu failed to keep adequate appointment records, medical histories or details of clinical treatment carried out on some patients while working in the city.

Wasu was even found guilty of forging signatures of patients while serving as a dentist at Aspire Dental Care in Landguard Road, Freemantle.

Now the General Dental Council (GDC) has struck off Wasu after he was found guilty of the offences at a public hearing into the allegations, which was held in London.

The inquiry was called by the GDC's Professional Conduct Committee in connection with the incidents, which occurred between 2008 and 2011 in Southampton and at another Aspire site, in Surbiton, Surrey.

Wasu was faced with a catalogue of charges, which also included failure to make adequate diagnoses prior to carrying out treatment and refusing to discuss treatment options with patients.

The committee also ruled that Wasu made retrospective entries into the records of at least two of his patients and failed to gain informed consent from another.

A spokesperson for the GDC's Professional Conduct Committee labelled Wasu's misconduct as “extremely serious”.

A statement provided to the Daily Echo said: “Mr Wasu's misconduct was not an isolated error. It occurred over a considerable period of time and involved a number of patients.

“It included many failures in record keeping, clinical care and a number of examples of dishonesty, of which the most striking was the forging of a patient's signature so as to undermine her complaint.

“This is extremely serious misconduct.”

Wasu, who was suspended immediately as a result of the hearing, now has 28 days to appeal against the decision.
