Windows 8 is slowly gaining popularity amongst users, but take-up is much slower than its predecessor.

The Microsoft OS, which is a massive departure from previous iterations, now accounts for 3.8 per cent of web traffic according to Net Applications.

The tile-based operating was released in October last year, with heacy discounts for people wishing to upgrade from Windows 7.

However, it's revolutionary design, which is intended to make it work just as well on tablets as it does desktops and laptops,seems to have put off many would-be users.

After six months, Windows 7, has cornered 10 per cent of the market, making the figures for the new version a disappointment for Microsoft.

Windows 7 now accounts for 44.72 per cent of web traffic according to Net Applications.
