Saints executive chairman Nicola Cortese is considering his position at the club, according to reports.

Cortese has overseen Saints’ rise from League One to the Premier League since coming in as part of the Markus Liebherr takeover in 2009.

Saints have effectively secured their top flight status for another season but Cortese is said to be considering his future.

It is reported that the Liebherr’s are mulling over a change to the way the club is run, and that could potentially threaten Cortese’s all powerful role where he is the sole major decision maker at St Mary’s.

Cortese is unlikely to just walk out instantly, and instead is reported to be ready to make a decision by the end of the month.

The publicity surrounding this could possibly force the Liebherr family into giving Cortese what he wants, in which case it is assumed he would remain with the club.

However, that may be determined to the public reaction to the news about a man who has delivered brilliant success on the field but has split opinion off of it.
