A GIANT textile railway arch will be woven into a series of events looking backing on a former Test Valley branch line.

Bosses at Romsey’s King John’s House and Heritage Centre are staging an exhibition about the Sprat and Winkle line to mark its demise nearly 50 years ago.

King John’s House manager Anne James said it needed the public’s help to recreate the railway arch.

“We want to build a giant railway arch out of knitted, crocheted, or stitched bricks. We need 300 plus bricks to make the arch,” said Anne.

The giant textile railway arch-making project – 8ft wide by 12ft tall – was on track to start today and it will run until Saturday at King John’s House between 10am and 4pm each day.

When completed, the arch will be included in King John’s House Open Art exhibition in August.

Anyone who can provide wool or would like to help make a brick for the arch, or who has memorabilia on the Sprat and Winkle is asked to get in touch with King John’s House on 01794 512200.
