CONCERNS have been raised over the design and teaching plans of a new training centre in Hampshire.

The £12m Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Advanced Skills Training would be built at the enterprise zone at Daedalus, near Lee-on-the-Solent, and is set to open in September 2014.

But Gosport councillors on the council’s regulatory board have expressed disappointment that the designs for the building, which would be run by Fareham College, have been changed to no longer include curved architecture.

Councillors also have concerns that the college wants to teach automotive engineering at the site, fearing that this could lead to the closure of such training at the Fareham Reach Skills Centre.

Gosport Council, which is a consultee on the project, has put forward a report on this to Fareham Borough Council, which will decide on the application.
