Police are appealing for witnesses after a thief attempted to break into a Hampshire home whilst the owner was asleep in bed.
The incident in Peel Common, Gosport happened sometime between 8.00pm on Tuesday, May 28 and 9.00am on Wednesday, May 29.
Although the suspect was not able to gain entry and nothing was stolen, there was damage to the external door handle which appear to be tool marks.
Detectives investigating the case are asking members of the public to contact the police if they saw anyone acting suspiciously or heard anything untoward at some point during that night.
They have also advised homeowner, epecially with the warmer weather approaching, to keep their doors and windows secure and to pay particular attention to any insecure doors when gardening during the day.
